Community sentiments

As an IRMA student group you carried out a street play in a slum community. Somehow a portion of the song of street play hurt the religious feeling of the community. They are doing a gharaoe not letting you to go out of their community. How would you strategise?

Before conducting any street play we must have some knowledge about the locality. When a situation like this arises we would first try to make the people understand the exact meaning of what we wanted to portray by that play. Moreover it can be assumed that we must have some interactions with some influential people and inform them what exactly we would be doing, before enacting the play. We would request those people to intervene and talk with the locals so that they can get us out of the soup.

In this situation, we could hold talks with some of the influential leaders, explain our purpose if it is wrongly interpreted, issue a public apology also , if needed.

Given this situation first and foremost we should publically apologise and made it clear that the purpose was not to hurt sentiments. Secondly, entering to dialogue process by identifying their leader or the person respected among the locals and try to take him in confidence and clear our point.

The gharaoe is a consequence of hurting the predilection of the community; the street play should be stopped at once, we should wait for some time for the community member to calm down, we should apologize and clarify our intentions, we should seek help from their leaders for an open discussion on the point of strain keeping in mind not to hurt them again.

The strategy should be to pacify the situation first. We need to ensure that we don’t get aggressive because that will only worsen the situation. The best possible way would be to request the leader of the community to calm down the environment so that we can talk and rectify the situation. Understand what exactly hurted their sentiments and try to clarify our part in case of misunderstandings or communication gaps. If the situation doesn’t change yet, apologize for all the hurt that we caused and tell them we are ready to do anything to heal their wounds.

First of all, we should all come to a consensus and should make it a point not to utter anything hurtful to the crowd. Then we must find a negotiator on behalf of us. If possible try to zero in the leader among them by identifying the person who takes initiative and speaks more. Then offering an apology and trying to convince them that it was not meant to hurt their sentiments. Lastly, we could have included them to come up with a solution to it.

Such a situation would have to be handled very delicately and tactfully. Foremost on the list of things to do, would have to be to identify a leader of the group and apologies must be rendered to the entire group, while soliciting the help of the leader to help in calming the crowd before emotions run high and things get out of hand. An explanation must be offered stating that the entire incident was unintentional.

First of all we will try to identify the influencial persons or the persons who are leading the community and are making the situation derogatory at that time.We will try to make them understand our real feeling or our ignorance of the meaning of the issued portion of the song in their context. Moreover we will apologise to the community for hurting their religious feeling unintentionally.

First thing to do is to stop the street play immediately before the matter worsens. As IRMA students we can do few things one of them is identifying the person who is influential in the community and explain him our intentions. Not all in the community might be supporting this act hence we shall identify them and ask them to mediate. After the community comes to talking term, apologize for the act which was done unknowingly and will explain our real motive for holding a street play in the community.

When the students find themselves in such a situation then they all must immediately stop the play and try to understand the main issue of offence. The students should not use any provoking languagae and must try to identify the leader of the community. Students should listen to their point of view and then offer an apology to the community people. They must try to explain their motive of doing the play and get views of the community people. The community members can also be included in the play and the song can be modified as per their suggestions also.

In these kinds of situations it is mostly seen that some individuals are trying to settle their personal scores by provoking the community sentiments. But the problem is that those people cannot be pointed out from the crowd. The best thing that could be done is that we should apologize to people for hurting their sentiments and tell them that this was totally unintentional. Later on we can investigate on this and bring the real culprits in front of everyone. For this we will of course need the help of some local people as well.

First of all we should stop the song to reduce the damage and influx of more members of the community. Then the people at the helm of affairs should be identified, explained that the song was a part of the play which was enacted to convey a message and was not meant to demean them in any way. And still if it had hurt their sentiments, we should apologize for that to the whole community.

This is a very frequent situation in our country.we have witnessed how movies, films posters and even books became target of such kind of confrontation. So best way to deal with such situation is suppressing the situation as it began to evolve otherwise many groups like political parties, local group try take mileage from this issue and make the situation worse.Talking to the leaders of agitators and luring him/her with incentives may break the ice a bit.

In such a situation, the group should elect a spokesperson or a group of people who speak on behalf of all, else different people making different statements might create more trouble. Also, instead of trying to address each and every individual, their leader or people who are seeming more violent should be talked to and explained the situation. After this, a public apology could be issued stating that to hurt their sentiments was not the intension of the play and apology could be asked for.

On the very outset , the play has to be stopped and intentions regarding the same have to be expressed to the community. The best way to probably break this dichotomy , in case of non-acceptance of apology is to ask the community what is the penalty that they would impose upon the community members in case of such a violation. The price in the form of a penalty has to be paid in order to break the dichotomy that exists between us and the community. This is crucial for maintaining our credibility and in all future transactions

In such situations talking to crowd would be fruitless as a crowd never has a voice of its own. I would rather identify a person from the community which has been hurt and at the same time a person from my team if possible from same community and ask them to negotiate. I would request them to allow us to re-perform the play eliminating that portion and explain that the way they perceived it was not what we wanted to present. We would also inform the police so that it handles the situation if gets worse even after public apology.

The agitation among the crowd will make it very difficult to talk to them therefore it is necessary to somehow make a contact with the influential person of the community, apologise for the situation and making him understand the intentions behind the street play. The locals need to be pacified with an apology and also by making sure that no member of our group say anything else to hurt their agitated sentiments.

Street play are the means of awaring people. collective action due to religious feeling shows its convergence theory. i will try to talk to the leader of the community and apologize publicly. I will also tell the community that our intentions were not to hurt them. I will convey the thing what we were trying to say with the help of their leader

I would try and advise my friend to remain calm and not to do any thing which would hurt their sentiments any more. Next i would find the leader of the slum community and apprise him of the situation and try to gain his support. I will also try to use IRMAs reputation and goodwill to support our cause.

4. In such a situation I would do two things at the same time. First and foremost the play shall be stopped and a public apology will be made. This however may not pacify the crowd who have already gheraoed the place and it will then be important for us to identify and pacify the influential people who can control the situation. In doing this the moderate people could be of help as they are the insiders who can guide us.

First of all we have to apologise to the community for hurting their sentiments. Next we need to identify the influential people of the community and have to convince them that this was a mistake and our intentions were not to hurt their feelings. After convincing these people we need to put our case in front of the community where now the influential people will support our case.

At first since the play is the root cause of the gharaoe it should be stopped. Then since this is related to the sentiments of the public an appology should be made and then we should to try to engage in dialog with someone influential from the community to make sure that our appologies are accepted by the community

To stop the matter from further worsening we need to stop the street play immediately. We need to make people understand the message we wanted to portray through the play. To undo the misunderstandings and make our intensions clear to them we should apologize to the community and with the help of opinion leaders make people understand the theme which was acted upon .

The situation described can be aggravated if it is not pacified as soon as possible. You must make a public apology in a polite and humble manner. Secondly, you must try to identify with the local leader and explain him the cause and reason for the same. Thirdly, you should then ask the leader to strike a chord between you and the local people. Finally you should make the people explain why you intend to show the part of the song.

In this scenario, the imminent action is to stop the song. Then we should identify the the influential person in that group as it is not possible to face the crowd when they are in rampage. Then we should try to convince him the essence of the song which was not purposefully made to hurt the the religious feeling of the community. This kind of one to one talk will be much effective to take the situation under control.

We need to apologise for our actions immediately and communicate them clearly that our intension was not to hurt them. Also, we need to talk to the persons in the community with which we would have had communication earlier and we should ask them to mediate in the conversation with the agitated people. And if they agree we should edit the portions of the play with which they have issues and then continue with the rest of the play.

I would render unconditional apologies to the community heads and explain that we didn't mean to hurt their feelings and that it is all a big misunderstanding..once i succeed in convincing the leaders, they'll talk to their community and the whole situation would be diffused..

First we will apologise to whole community openly, then we would identify the community leader and try to help him understand our main motive of our street play is to educate and create awareness regarding some issue but not to hurt the community sentiment. Then along with the community leader we will try to build rapport among the community and will try to visit religious place of the community so that those people can understand our motives clearly, as actions speaks louder than words. So visiting religious place with community leader will help people to understand our part of story.

Hold talks with the active members and community leaders and issue an apology through their own members. The meeting if possible should be held at a distance from the mob.
Also talk to the whole community, offer an explanation and hear their opinions once the environment is a little peaceful .
