Are we leading a life of Rumplestiltskin?
What creates Rumplestiltskin?
What can be done to avoid the end of Rumplestiltskin for us?

Most of the humans lead a need based life. They help others, thinking that they would get something in return. Desire to get more and more turns into an obsession when the goals are not achieved. Distancing oneself from the greed and needs before it overpowers the individual itself is a possible solution to avoid one's own demise.

Rumplestilskin is somewhere in all of us.You can convince someone to do something for you by offering more and more greed but it will ultimately lead to your self destruction. Also there is one more lesson to learn from the story that we should not celebrate the success before its culmination, because in that happiness we might commit some detrimental mistake.

If we are making relationships or helping others with only profit motive in mind then we can say that we are leading a life of Rumplestiltskin. What I think is that greediness and there by exploiting others for our own advantage creates Rumplestiltskin. The things to be done to avoid the end of Rumplestiltskin for us are:
• Don’t be manipulative
• Don’t create relations / help others just for the sake of achieving our crooked final objectives.

Most of the people today are leading a life of Rumplestiltskin.
We have strong desires, and in order to get them, we demand something in return. Now, if these demands are not fulfilled, then we might be frustated, and retort to what Rumplestiltskin did. To avoid the end of Rumplestiltskin, we should not maintain any relation, just for the sake of earning profit out of it, learn to accept defeat in a graceful manner, and don't let our desires overpower ourself.

To expect selfless service from people is a little too much to ask for considering that materialistic aspirations have become a way of life nevertheless altruistic tendencies are still there in mankind. In is just a matter of context that whether help could be expected without any strings attached to it or not. But still the philanthropic instincts present in every human ensure that everyone is not headed towards self-destruction. A man needs to follow such instincts more & should not try to curb them burdened by acquisitive longings.

In today’s world most of us are leading a life of rumplestiltskin where our moves are calculative and our offering of help to others also in turn is a manipulative bargain of something we expect in return from them. The story tells us that this greed in turn leads to our very own destruction in the end. So to avoid the end of rumplestiltskin for us we need to detach ourselves from the greed and anger and also to make sure we don’t help people just to get benefit out of them but to create true relationship with them.

Have you noticed those Rumplestiltskin’s around us (maybe in us). High achievers, cream of the lot. They are aware that they are the best. They know that they can convert straw to gold, always in pursuit of maximizing their returns. I’m sure this is not uncommon; our education does produce many Rumplestiltskin’s. Arrogance and greed does not allow us to see beyond ourselves. Often ends up in destruction of self and others around us.

We have ample of Rumplestiltskin around us..! Let us think globally ...every country is in a competition of power, which forces them to hamper their own strengths and focus on weaknesses of others..What is the result is one is at the stage of self destruction as you tend to forget to work on your strengths and work on others weakness...so you destroy yourself as well as the other ..!For example, America is funding for its own self destruction by paying huge sums of taxpayers’ money to place law and order in sensitive parts of Pakistan.

Yes there is a bit of him in all of us as we tend to consider every action towards others more as a transaction so desire to get something in return gets internalized in the transaction itself .With time it perpetuates to a bigger level as what we get in return becomes a measure of our strength and prowess(our own belief). The solution can be to aim to build long term relationships rather than short term need based ones .

This world is full of Rumplestiltskins, Give and Take policy is ok, but when it involved greed or desire of more and more in return it lead to self destruction in the end. to avoid this end one has to detach from greed and anger in two side relationsho]ip and also make sure 'Help' is not when you expect something in return.

Definitely we are leading life of Rumplestiltskin in this materialistic world where each one is having an incentive for the work done. Rumplestiltskin is created just for expecting anything in lieu of any service you are providing in any mode but seeing the other way you should be ready to pay for the work you are expecting to be performed by others for you. So rather than one way it should be two way approach in order to avoid the end i.e. transaction should not be incentive based but should be need based.

The 'Rumplestiltskin' sielntly tells us the wisdom words: don't be greedy, don't envy, don't be too clever and we should be more careful of what we say and think of the consequences beforehand.
In someway or other we all are Rumplestilskin and we demand in return for everything we do..we don't come out from our self-centredness and we envy..feel anger when we meet failue or see others succeed.

One who sees only success all one's life doing the same thing that makes that person successful is so used to it that the person cannot take anything but success. The slightest failure leads to self-destruction as the idea of the success loving self collapses. Life never ensures success forever. Thinking one will always rise in a linear path is wishful thinking. Life’s full of uncertainty and uncertainty is what causes anxiety in humans. One should be ready to deal with uncertainty or at least accept it in order to not collapse in anxiety.

If we all think of making gold and only gold we indeed are on the path of being a Rumplestiltskin. Here Gold is synoymous to all the materialistic as well as greed fulfilling things not the needful things. The tendency of human beings to move towards an insatiatied hunger to acquire more and more is an universal phenomenon where success becomes an obsession and lead to pride ultimately leading to downfall and destruction.

Jyotsana said...

This story reflects our self-interest, greed and hidden selfish motive behind helping others. After realising our capability to turn straw into gold, we become so arrogant that we forget the values of humanity. It is definitely our arrogance, greed and obsession for materialistic pleasure that turns us into Rumplestiltskin and which finally results into our self-destruction. To avoid such end we need to be emphatic. Instead of looking for materialistic things we should think about the aesthetic pleasure that we can have after getting rid of greed and arrogance.

Greed leads to creation of Rumplestilskin. In today’s competitive world, all individuals as well as organizations act as Rumplestiltskin where they aim towards getting ahead of others. Winning becomes an obsession, and when such a person has to face defeat, his attitude leads not only to self destruction, but also affects others. Controlling being envious about others success could help to overcome the tendency of becoming Rumplestilskin.

P31051 said...

People like Rumplestilskin aim for a win-lose situation where they gain at the expense of others. Tendency of being a Rumplestilskin can be reduced by not comparing success with others but with our own set standards. Understanding the essence of a win win situation would enable a person to reduce the tendency of being Rumplestilskin.

An element of Rumplestiltskin is always there in us. It depends on with whom we relate. If it’s the case of our family and loved ones, we never crave for benefits and yields as such. But when we venture out of this sphere, we try to get the maximum. And when our realizations are lesser than our expectations, feeling of devastation creeps in. This greed inflicts serious damage to ourselves and has wide ranging repercussions. One extreme is the termination of relationships for the tiny worldly possessions. A strong realization of self and our relationships may help us out.

For some people getting success motivates them to achieve more and for some it’s a passion and they can't seem to survive without it. When the desire to achieve something breaks all limits then it leads to self-destruction as then we are too blinded to see the difference between right and wrong. Desires should be checked against reality to avoid any disastrous end like Rumplestiltskin.

What was wrong if Rumplestiltkin reciprocated his help? He benefited girl and deserves to be benefited by girl. Reason for Rumplestiltskin demise is this:1)
Not to make negotiation when other party is in no position to negotiate. Girl accepted to give her first child because she had no other option.2) don’t count your chicken before they hatch, he started celebrating before final deal and lost the deal by revealing his identity.

Human want is unlimited. Many of us leading the life of "Dil mange more".People serve others expecting equal or more returns. But when they won't get the required return, they become frustrated and that moment the self destructive behaviour emerges which is perilous in nature.
An individual should not be blind expecting the return from other and he should appreciate what he has with him.

Rumpelstiltskin is created by greed, which leads us to manipulate others where we might appear to help them but in reality we are using them for our vested interests and assuming that they'll never see through it. Our greed and overconfidence should be kept in control to avoid the end of Rumpelstiltskin as sooner or later the exploited or oppressed finds a way out to get out of the clutches of the oppressor.

In a sense we are leading a life of Rumplestiltskin. We expect from the person to whom we gave something. This hurts the self esteem of the giver who expects, which might leads to the destruction of the person like Rumplestiltskin. It is a saying that "Don't expect so as to avoid the situation of disrespect."
Rumplestiltskin expected from the queen in exchange of the help he gave to her. But when he would not be in position to get the returns, he destroyed himself.

The people expecting in return for whatever they do leads a life Rumplestiltskin. It is their greed to get more and more from whatever they do. They need to get rid of this by extending themselves to feel others pain and gain. This I think this is better way to avoid their end.

Rumpelstiltskin is there around us because we want it to be there, all of us want our problems to be solved with just a wand's movement and we always look towards others to do it. This is when Rumpelstiltskin is created and he starts taking advantage of us. if we do not want to meet the same end as him we should start serving without any personal benefit. We should learn from the "Gita" verse- "karm kar, fal ki icha mat kar"

Sarath said...

Rumplestiltskin was angry that queen got his name correct and so he was going to lose his prize. This frustrated him, which happens in our lives too when we have too much of expectations and we are not able to achieve them. Rumplestiltskins are created when one becomes too sure of one’s achievement.
We must look at failure as a stepping stone to success, rather than seeing it as an end in itself. Technical leaders who haven’t tasted failures don’t know how to solve them. So face failures boldly and learn from them!

Awareness of one’s strengths is necessary, but if it culminates in creation of a mindset that the ‘I’ is invincible and success will be assured leads to a path of destruction. Rumplestiltskin is all this and it’s quite easy to be swayed into his world.
But can we accept failure and still emerge stronger, are we prepared to accept that there’s a better competitor out there and no matter how brilliantly successful the past has being I need to be better equipped every other time? if one can then Rumplestiltskin’s tragedy can be avoided!

At times we offer help to other people who may be in powerful position than us and we may be expecting a favour from them. In truer sense it doesn’t remain a help which is offered but an investment which you can en cash at time of crisis. Somewhere, knowingly or unknowingly, we all have the traits of Rumplestiltskin. What we may pursue is to help others without keeping expectations and in case the person returns the favour it is his humanity. Failure of expectations hurt a lot and to avoid being Rumplestiltskin we must also learn to accept defeat.

In my view almost all are living the life of Rumplestiltskins because most of moves and relationship is dependent on mutuality where one calculates the magnitude of return according to ones investment. Such greed lead to self destruction which is it is evident from the story. Distancing from this kind of materialistic approach and going for morality and empathy which will lead to better understanding of people and thus relations.

We are indeed leading a life of Rumpelstiltskin; most of our actions are geared to get a tangible return, whether it is getting a pay raise or even grades. I suppose it is the materialistic nature of our society with money getting more than its due importance which results in creating Rumpelstiltskin’s in all of us. The only way to end Rumpelstiltskin for us would be to experience the joy in giving without expecting a return, and stop measuring others and indeed our success by the quantum of material assets owned.

In real life everyone is leading towards life of Rumplestiltskin, as our actions are determined by what will be my profit from this transaction. Cut throat competition, greed to show status in society, better life standards then surroundings etc. all motivate us towards creation of Rumplestiltskin. We should collectively work towards problems, issues so that we can avoid creation of Rumplestiltskin, as all will collectively tackle various situations, so the felling of cooperation will minimise differences among peoples.

We all are in a way leading a life of Rumplestiltskin. In all situations of our life, we search for the hidden benefits for ourselves. This makes us blind towards the hidden consequences when our greed exceeds limit. The result is that we end up losing more than what we started with.
The limited outlook that we have about the Universe, in which, we feel we are the centre of the universe is the major causes for the creation of Rumplestiltskin.
The understanding of the existence of another person of equal importance in this cosmos can perhaps avoid the scenario.

Rumpelstiltskin is the antagonist in a fairy tale who was worried because he is going to lose his prize. Knowingly and unknowingly we are living life of Rumplestiltskin. We used to be very conscious about the result and for this we are not able to put our full strength in it. Fear of failure makes us the Rumplestiltskin. To avoid the end of Rumplestiltskin we have to think positively and should understand that failure teaches us more than the success.

i all agree with all my friends. Our actions are seldom selfless. we always want others to reciprocate, infact wait for it and become hostile if we do not get it. We can avoid rumplestilskin by celebrating the happiness of others and be a part of their universe.

Satwick said...

Life of rumplestiltskin, we have internalized the thinking that everything we do will have a return attached to it. The belief that one expects a return on investment for every thing, creats Rumplestiltskin in a long run. After all one cant expect to think altruistically all the time, but one should avoid being manipulative, expect things which are reasonable and practical.

We are living in a society which is surrounded by Rumplestiltskin(s). Each and everyone have a part of Rumplestiltskin in us, but there is a very thin line that differentiates us from being a part and being apart. Arrogance, greed is making us self obsessed and we have to accept failure in the same manner as we crave for success, otherwise we may also face the same consequences as faced by Rumplestiltskin.

In today’s competitive world we are in race all the time, be it watching movies, playing games, chatting with friends or making girl friends , we always want to outwit others. But we are not left with any option. If we are a little bit timid, others will grab the opportunity. So what are we supposed to do?? Do we need to go all guns blazing? Or surrender against the hypocrisy of life. Or accept a mediocre (read pedestrian) life. How do we balance all these still remains a question.

ENVENOMED said...

If asked the obvious answer would be yes, if not all majority of us do lead a life of Rumplestiltskin. With growing days the traits of Rumplestiltskin in each and everyone of us is getting firmer. The changing environment, the competition with external environment, the greed, the will to succeed at any cost create and destroy many a Rumplestiltskin everyday. To avoid we need to see things from more extravert tendencies. One needs to realize that being down to earth is the key, your achievements would be recognized with time, and the best giving is giving without expecting.
