Gandhi ji "A Real Actor of Collective Action"

"We are constantly being astonished at the amazing discoveries in the field of violence. But I maintain that far more impossible discoveries will be made in the field of non-violence.”
-Mahatma Gandhi

the quote of gandhi ji right in today context also....non-violence is a weapon of weak. As we know his, non co-operation movement was the first ever series of nationwide peoples movements of non-violent resistance and civil dis-obidedience by Mahatma Gandhi and the Indian national congress (INC). ‘Ahimsa’ or non-violence was to be strictly observed during non co-operation movement. The non co-operation movement marked the Gandhian era in the phase of independence movement in India.
Gandhi ji was also very knowledgeable about the action situation India was in at that time. He knew that people of India as a mass were timid and not capable of using guns against British rule. So, wisely he chooses his end as freedom. He was very tactical in choosing this. He used the tools of Hartal (Strikes), fasting and non-violent processions. He induced the wave of primitive sympathy in people of India by surrendering his titles, honors and medals to viceroy (Governor General). This action of his promoted the similar feelings in minds and hearts of the mass.
During ANAND RUN on 26th jan 2009. we seen the primitive sympathy of PRM29 by RS.1000 contribution,
and in my view Gandhi ji is a great motivator for youth and his theories must be puposed in CAC sessions.

rightly said amit the movement undertaken by Gandhiji is the best example of the collective action and the influence any charismatic leader can have. the leader with his soft as well as hard skills can always sweep the mind of the millions and bring history to a new unknown course

Principles of Mahatma Gandhi, his tools such as Satyagraha must be included in CAC syllabus. But your assumption about Gandhi ji thinking about the weakness of Indian populace and then going for his tactics of non-violence is something i cannot agree. In fact it is one's ideology which drives one's actions. Gandh ji was a principled actor not a strategic actor. and i believe that his being highly principled was the most important reason why masses followed him with pride.

i agree that non-violence can be a great weapon. though its success or failure in meeting the ends will also meet the opponent. we could make a dashing statement with non-violence thanks to the liberal section of the british society.

non-violence as a weapon has failed in palestine. Israel tanks had mowed down international peace activists, even before the camera.

Yes you are right, he was a amazing leader. It is very rare that every person responded the same way he wanted to do. But we also look into the context and social dynamics of that time. During this period the entire India was wishing to win Independence ( Full Swaraj) and as a consequence of which all actors both passive and active gave full strength voice to the call of the situation.
Is not it??
