"WANTED- A LEADER"

A nation always looks for leaders, especially in times of crisis. Anyone can steer the ship when the sun is out, few have the courage to steer the ship in a storm. in this context Obama’s victory is not only historic because he is the first Afro -American to lead the nation but perhaps because after a long time the Americans have found someone they believe has anwers to their problems ,though he is yet to prove himself. As they say “A good leader inspires people to have confidence in the leader, a great leader inspires people to have confidence in themselves”. The “obama effect” is more about optimism and collective faith of the people to keep the American dream going. He is no magician who can whisk away problems of such immense magnitude in days, what he can do and that’s what makes him appealing to the public is that he is willing to take responsibility, is willing to roll up the sleeves and do the dirty work. He can make America work together keeping behind the historical baggage of race and as he said, “ I chose to run for the presidency at this moment in history because I believe deeply that we cannot solve the challenges of our time unless we solve them together - unless we perfect our union by understanding that we may have different stories, but we hold common hopes; that we may not look the same and we may not have come from the same place, but we all want to move in the same direction - towards a better future for our children and our grandchildren” . Thats what makes America believe in him.

Now as i put that in the Indian context i feel where do i see the leader in the Indian scene, i see many distinguished names and many political leaders but none who can cut across all barriers to call himself the leader of India. What worsens the situation is that in India leadrership is a legacy you inherit and is a function of the money and muscle power you can corner. Its said that some situations throw up good leaders, Well there can’t be a situation that is more demanding of leadership than now. Armed foreigners walk into your territory and gun down 200 people, the economy is suffering, there is growing regionalism , naxalism, and the list goes on, the situation demands a leader. someone who has the courage and willingness to say NO to petty populism, the vision to think ahead and inspire faith. However we the masses should also be patient enough to allow the leader to grow, we must realise leader will make mistakes and must recognise and empathise with his human fallibility and not get let down by it. As long as he is honest and true to his vision of a better India we must rally behind him or her. the leaders post is since long vacant but are there any desesrving applicants????
