Parallel Structure in Development Sector

If you follow the developments in the development sector closely, you will find that there is an increasing number of NGOs or developmental organizations performing the functions, which governments are supposed to do. A parallel structure of institutions is being developed to the existing government infrastructure. The performance of these organizations has been found to be good and efficient. The question arises - Should the government infrastructure be put to rest to avoid duplicacy of infrastructure?? Why is taxpayers money being wasted in the form 'Transfer Payments' to the beneficiaries in the form of welfare schemes ?? Funding and implementing these schemes with the help of developmental agencies was the right way ! However, due to political implications, PPP models are slowly becoming loss-making ventures and thus, forcing these agencies for autonomy!

Biodegradable waste used as fertilizer!!!

I would like to suggest a remedy for the collection of garbage. It is being implemented in many cities. Wet garbage or the biodegradable garbage is a big menace and every household produces it on a large scale, much of it goes to the dustbins and is therefore wasted. This garbage can be stored in big steel tins and when some worms are put in it. Their excreta can be used as a fertilizer. Actually the biodegradable fertilizers about which we hear are produced in this way. So they can be produced in our households or collectively in our apartments .This fertilizer is extremely healthy for all kinds of plantations. This is getting implemented in many cities but on an individual level.
If done collectively it will solve two problems at a time.

Volunteers...

I found it difficult to interpret when collective action is done voluntarily rather than on incentive basis. When people come together and volunteer to do a group activity, their whole concentration is common goal.Even though no economic incentive is present but if the work is finished in good way it attracts appreciation for the whole group. The mindset to work without any economic incentive for a common goal has produced many successful events. Events managed in colleges are best examples of such mindset. Isn't it sad that when introduction of "green color paper" money comes all these mindset is washed away

Mahatma and Dairy Cooperative

Before the independence,Gandhi had explained the importance of Dairy- Cooperaive. In HARIJAN on 6th oct.1946,he wrote-
"The secret of successful co-opeartive effort is that the members must be honest and know the great merit of co-operation and it must hav ea definite progreesive goal. Thus holding a certain sum of money in co-operation for the sake of making more money by charging exorbitant rates of interest is a bad goal.But,co-operative farming or dairying is a undoubtely a good goal promoting national interest.Such instances can be multiplied."
And,this vision was implemented by Father of White revolution in later decades in Gujarat. Many times Dr. Kurien was asked-"Why not this revolution became successful in all parts of India."
And,he always answered-"This was not done due to me.....but,it was done due to the extra-ordinary co-operative behaviours of the farmers of Gujarat...".

Mahatma Gandhi And Cooperative......part-1

For the next few posts, I would like to write the views of Father of our nation on collective action and cooperation. Many times my friends have asked-"why you always quote Gandhi? He is now irrelevant.Time has changed."And,my answer always is-"Time change per nano-second.But,basic values have never changed. It gets respect from the time immemorial. If I would not quote Gandhi, then whom I quote-Harshad Mehta,Dhirubhai Ambani or Gautam Adani?"
Once Gandhi writes-"Man is not born to live in isolation but is essentially a social animal independent and inter-dependent.No one can or should ride on another's back.If we try to work out necessary conditions for such a life,we are forced to the conclusion that the unit of society should be a village or call it be a manageable small group of people who would,in the ideal,be self-sufficient(in the matter of their vital requirements) as a unit and bound together in bonds of mutual co-operation and interdependence."

Cooperative Action and present Education System

Many participants have talked about a movie,in which present education system has been criticised. If I compare it with our course,it is almost the same thing. If we prepare ourselves for daily classes,we have to read approximately 150 pages daily of different topics. It includes different background of subjects. Also,we have different assignments and extra-curricular activities and events. Many participants have also the responsibities of managing the student issues.
We are assigned to do all these things. But,we are not taught to manage the time with these activities. We are expected to work for rural India. But,this is taught through spanish and german examples and articles.I donot know,if I have no knowledge for our own country, then how I will be able to implement it here through foreign examples and studies. There are many things, but I donot want to go into that.
In today's CAC class, when one participant asked a basic question regarding the feasibility of CPR in diifferent contexts, many CHATUR SEN laughed at him. But,that question was very jenuine in nature.I have faced the same questions at the grass-root level. And the questions are-
1.How to evolve or originate CPR institution in a specific place and environment?
2.How it should be monitored for its smooth functioning?
Because in every village there are some people who are always more affluent and powerful and controlling all the activities.Justice, equity, fair distribution and other beautiful words seems tiny, when we work in the field.
I have visited hundreds of villages in Bihar,UP,Assam,West Bengal,Jharkhand. Most of the times I have found that it is only the one family, who controls and influences most of the resources of that particular village.
In the last class of CAC,one of the eight design principles for CPR institutions was MINIMAL RECOGNITION OF RIGHTS TO ORGANISE.In which it is explained that the right of appropriators to devise their own institutions are not challenged by external governmental authorities. But,in no soveirgn country, any institutution can get the full autonomy.Any decision of any institution can be challanged in the court of law.Yes,it is true that government donot intervene in day-to-day activity of many institutions....But,it can intervene in extraordinary situation....

3 IDIOTS ! ! !

Well ...one can wonder what the title 3 idiots doing in blog for collective action and cooperation? first and foremost reason is we all students collectively agree (i hope 98 % do agree) that movie was excellent. this is a feat in itself that more than 100 persons of intellect agree on a common point when they can not even agree upon mess menu. so what does this movie tells us?? any idea out there? is the comparison with mess menu is appropriate? as we directly daily eat in mess it affects us, on the other hand movie is not directly affecting us. can a movie made so far in bangalore, which we saw for fun can be thought of as taking a point on which everybody agrees?
