collective behavior

According to convergence theory people show their TRUE SELVES in crowd. it claims that crowd served only as excuse, as we know not every individual belief's in violence, so how do they become part of the violent crowd atleast they can disassociate themself from that place. I think that SADISTIC PLEASURE can be a reason why they dont disassociate themself from such incidence.

Many a times when you are part of a mob you may not realise at that point in time about what the mob is doing is whether good or bad because at that time we get carried away by the thought in the mob. This is evident in riots. Some people may indulge in looting, burning, etc at that time but they may not indulge in similar acts if they are alone.

In short, while being part of a mob one may not think and do rather do what others think and do.

Violence is not always due to the want of sadistic pleasure. Many a times its the anger or dissatisfaction related to the issue that comes out in the form of violence. The crowd's reaction in this case can be said to have acted as a trigger to the outburst of violent activities.

Here's an alternative to the SADISTIC PLEASURE theory:
At times people are hesitant to express their anger and dissatisfaction individually and fear retaliation/persecution. But when in a crowd, that too of like minded people, they are assured of support and anonymity and the unity of ideas gives them strength enough to express their true feelings and vent their anger through violence.
