The Rebirth of Community: Chipko Movement

A remarkable example of the present that continues to unite people for collective action on strength and scale is climate change.
To confine ourselves, let us explore the bloodline of climate change in India: an socio ecological movement that inspired grassroot level action from individuals.
The Chipko Andolan practised non violent resistance through act of hugging trees to them from being felled. What began in the early 1970 as a sacrifice to protect nature against the contractor system of Uttrakhand Forest Government evolved into ecofeminism, awareness, amendments in government policies and legacy for the world to witness and draw inspiration from.
