SUSTAINENCE OF A COLLECTIVE ACTION

To start any cooperative action there is a need of few unconditional co-operators and to make it a successful mixed motivation is required. But in long run if the number of unconditional co-operators gets diminished or vanished with an increase in full utilitarians, will this cooperative action remain sustainable is a matter of concern, as unconditional co-operators are hard to found.

Unconditional cooperators are required for the benefits of cooperation to reach a critical mass. After that full utilitarians join and unconditional cooperators cease to play a role because now full utilitarians find that their contribution is increasing the average benefit.Besides them people motivated by quasi norm of fairness ,social norms or process benefits join the cooperative action. Once cooperative action gets established people continue to cooperate in their own benefit if the benefits of the cooperation is not skewed.

The full utilitarians and selfless utilitarians would act as the initiators of the collective action and would not require the unconditional co-operators to initiate an action. They do it as long as they know that their contribution increases the average benefits and their action has an useful consequences.
