Value Education

When I was in school, we used to have a course called Value Education. It's an excellent course, if "taught". But its one of the most neglected course in school curriculum and not accorded the status of Mathematics, Physics, etc. In my opinion, if this course is conducted properly then many of our concerns may be allayed. Disrespecting our culture, country, teachers, parents, etc can be controlled to a great extent if education of values in imparted from early age. A collective action by sincere people may bring the attention of our education ministries towards this matter.

Nicely pointed out, even I had such a course named MORAL SCIENCE in class 8 and I still remember it was not given much preference in curriculum and thus wasn’t taken seriously by the students themselves. so as a part of the curriculum if the students are made aware of the importance of co-operation and working in unity and have different interactive tasks for the same then the young minds can be moulded to be model citizens of tomorrow.

Today's education system emphasis is more on earning the bread rather than on values. So the development of society is stagnant though we have loads of engineers, doctors etc.So thats why it is not accorded and considered important today. No body today talk about of ethics and values where the priority is to save time or inconvenience in order to get things done.Still ALL IS WELL.

In GETTA it has been quoted that-" Tum kya lekar aaye the, aur kya lekar jaaoge. jo kal kisi aur ka tha wo aaj tumhara hai aur kal kisi aur ka hoga".
it had been said for the tangible assets but if we think about intangible assets then we find this quotation contradicting our view.
it will your good work counted in future resulting in good image.
this can be achieved through value education.
Why do we study History??????
Answer is we try to know the things done by them for the betterment of masses.
So i support the view of Shashvat & Khokhar.

The Supreme Court of India, acting on a PIL, made a course on environmental awareness compulsory till the bachelor's course. In my opinion again a PIL on the issue of introduction of compulsory Value Education course may attract the attention of the Court towards this issue and it may pass some positive judgment in this regard.

Even though the subjects like moral science or value education are paid due importance in the education system it is not sufficient...
The learning of ethic and values start at much younger age, many a times before we even join school...
To begin with the emphasis should lie on practicing the values we have already learnt....

this is no way offending my respected friend Shashvat, but as you started the post by citing that you were told this subject at school and i hope many of us were, how many of us do not call a professor by his name on his/her back? Do we learned people respect our professor even after being imparted the knowledge? so, as prof. Raju said once in his class, nothing can be developed from outside, you should have it in your hart or mind to do something and only then you can do it. will they have a real effect??
