This is the success story of leprosy patients and other disabled persons,who gave smile on the faces of lakhs of "abled" persons.It starts when a son of a wealthy jagirdar family with the six leprosy patients,14 rupees,one cow and 20 acres of barren land started cooperation with disabled persons.Equiped with Gandhian and Binova Bhave's thought they started to work on the vision of "a independent village". And this vision came true with the name of ".Anandvan".
Once I got the opportunity to visit Anandvan and to meet Baba Amte.When I asked him what was the most important contribution of this cooperation,he replied-"this has given self-respect and independence to those people,who are considered to be disabled.These disabled persons have made able to many "abled" persons of the society.People can live without fingers but cannot live without self-respect."
