Greed vs Need

Many of us are aware about the failure of the Copenhagen Summit. I wont be doing the analysis here but it made me think that just for the economic benefit we can take the highest risk possible for mankind, ignore the visible sign before our senses and why does no collective action happened at the summit ? The so called mature economies of the world were more reluctant to accept the demands presented where as the developing nations showed some resistant and were successful in communicating the message that they are not going to accept to pay the cost for the greed of the west. But the message sent out was very clear if you don’t help yourself no body would come forward to help you and responsibility is of every nation , every state, and extends to each n every individual including you and me. My observation is in same regards but in our context:

a. Our paper usage like during the project submission or when we take slides print out before quizzes in which we waste lot of paper by taking one sided print out .It waste lot of paper neither we are reusing it so any collective action or cooperation possible like emphasis on submitting the soft copy only in submission before it is finally approved. Similarly we can discuss it with our faculty to send us the soft copy of material like expert research paper etc unless unavoidable. Here the technology can bridge the gap.

b. My second observation is related to electricity usage be it light, fan or always running laptop and loud music system . Can we use them more judiciously ?

c. Third is food we waste and trust me there are some places on this planet where one time meal is shared by community and that just a loaf of bread so we are privileged and we should make it a point in avoiding food wastage.

So is any collective action and cooperation possible in this regard ?
