A collective action in need ??

A collective action is required by the students in IRMA along with mess staff to reduce the waste of food in our mess.

Even though our mess is students mess, we are unable to reduce the wastage of food. Though this issue is raised by some of us in GBM before but it goes unheard by the majority. The food is wastage of food is due to:

1. Many of us go out for meals in large group without informing in mess even when it is pre-planned.

2. Left-over in our plate.

Can we do something about it ?

Dear Deeika. i don't think that the matter posted by you has any link with the subject "CAC" taught to us. As Sony sir has told us to write something relevant to the subject, so write something which is relevant to the subject.
Mess is the a system of IRMA that is in continuity for many years.

I am not saying that the system needs a change.

I was just high lighting that even though it is a students mess why cant we get together and reduce the wastage of food .An action which requires everyone to participate.

May be a simple conscious effort by all will reduce food wastage in our mess.

I would like to disagree with the point raised by Anshuman. This issue is definitely relevant to collective action and cooperation. A concerted action by a group can definitely bring down the food wastage in the mess. Those who waste food must be penalized and sensitized.

Also, can't systems which exist for a long time have shortcomings??

Any system followed, be it mess managed by students or the community itself will have food wastage till the time we as both individuals and group do not make effort to reduce it..
It's we who are enjoying the benefits in terms of food.

Can't we make some effort to reduce food wastage ??

I think people need to be encouraged to take multiple helpings, so that they do not fill their plates all at once and waste half of the food, though it is a very small step i still think it will help in waste reduction.

according to my observations, most of the food gets wasted because people decide on taking the quantity of meal on the baits of the taste, last time they ate it. so if the food prepared is not up to the previous mark, as it a lot of times does not, they do not each as much as they have wished to and have therefore taken. so i can suggest to take it in a lesser quantity first to have a taste and then your whole requirement.

Deepika we only talk about collective action on blogs and thats it. We never initiate any concrete action. I think we should first come up with small initiations and then talk about it, So that people show interest in it.

In this case we can come up with small attractive posters to convince people not to waste food. Also we can show the amount of wastage on daily basis on respective notice board so that people can know about it.

If you people are really interested than i can lend my support in this collective action.
