recently our batch was faced with the choice of an assignment or an exam on Designing Institutions Module of CAC. and most of us were in favour of an exam. i sincerely fail to understand that in a course like CAC, where we have learnt theories of co-operation, rationality, individual and group motivations to act in a united manner, how could we shy away from working as a team on a group assignment.
the argument that one of the participant put was that the topics are easier to comprehend in the module, so we shall take an exam. then as the supposed to be topic of the assignment was revealed- analysis of certain co-operatives, another participant exclaimed " chee" or crap to be precise. this was shocking not only for me but also for others present..
all i want to convey here is working alone is the most easy thing to do. to be a part of a group, listening to other's ideas, convincing others is a comparatively better learning experience. as i believe " convenient way is most often the non-rational way." think over it ...

What type of question you are raising? Here people are doing any thing to get good grades.Where does this word-"cooperation" comes? In any group-formation people try to go go with those people, who they think are better in that subject.
Also,in the name of class-participation participants just ask and say something to make their presence felt by the faculties and other participants. Those subjects,in which there is no weightage for class-participation,rarely any participant speaks. All these things are for getting good-grades and not for collective action and cooperation.
There is mid-term exam. from tommorow.See how many participants posts their views on this blog for the next three days.Clearly, there is exam.,which weighs more than this blog.
...days became weeks.. months became years.. board exams became midterms..Tables became Excel sheets...and scoldings became ignorance.. Lot has changed since we were in class 2 but one thing that has not changed is the desire to get 'ahead' ..Ahead of the class, ahead of self.. People are STILL what they ARE on grade sheets ..Blame it on meritocratic education system or what..can't say..
well said ahmed. but when it came to choice between assignments and exam, participants went in favour of exams as there were many assignments and projects waiting for us after thew midterms. thus, giving upto temptation of assignments would create a "lose lose" situation were one would be strangled in many assignments. along with this there was "milaap" n "udaan", so to prepare for these activities actively going for exams was necessary.
