Where is cooperation in true sense?

We often talk about cooperation for overall benefits of group but I believe that personal incentive be it the monetary or the non-monetary is the only driving force behind any kind of cooperation. No one works for the welfare or the well being of the others or group unless there is some kind of incentive for him. It is also the contribution of the others in the group that drives him for the cooperation. But exceptions are rarely found. And those who work not for incentives but only group welfare may be at the self actualization stage(Maslow’s need hierarchy).

I agree to the point you have mentioned. the term we would use for the same thing is self enlightened interest. not to forget that even if the person is doing it for self interest, he is still benefiting others in the process. so its completely acceptable

but one thing is, when it comes to life. eg if some one is drowning in river, u know swimming so u will try and help him out. where is the swlf interest? u tell an address to a new person in your area. where is the self interest?

i think wht u mentioned was helping them rather than cooperation for the mutual benefit.. is the both same??
if yes then arises the question of difference between cooperation and the help..

What about extra-rational motivation? How would you justify the rational of a group of individuals spreading awareness about harmful effects of climate change? Many participants blog not for grades, but for an altogether new experience. Self interest cannot account for all collective actions.

Self interest is the first step towards co-operation. Until and unless, there is benefit involed at invidual level, no body will come forward. Hence we can't think of collective action without self interest at initial stage.

collective action takes place when the individual benifit in the action exceeds the benefits of doing it individually.this fact is even explained in the game theory. as far as extra rational motivation are concerned they also aim at some individual benefits such as recognition.

@ritesh
i said that there might be exceptions but rarely found. blogging not for grades may be for identity. don't u post in a blog based on the replies or the comments of the followers u get for your posting?? if no one cares of your posting will u do the same again?? u may do it for some time but later on, will it continue??
