Collective action vs. Collective action

I am reminded of an incident which took place in far off Odisha, when I was working in a bank. The BJD had called for a Bandh in Odisha and its supporters went on a rampage and forced shopkeepers to down their shutters. However, things were to take a “U” turn in a particular area. Shopkeepers in that area came together and took the battle to the enemy camp and the bandh enforcers had to beat a retreat. A beautiful example of collective action for the better against that for the worse.

this reminds of each and every situation i have heard where a handful of people have taken over much larger population just because of weapons or any other power factor. for eg a hijack. four people hijacking a plane having say 150 passengers. their individual existence becomes important in this situation. Is it possible to show a collective action at that time?

If common men of this country unite, then these petty politicians would never be able to fulfill their dream of dividing society. They just need to realise the strength of collective action. But the case with most of us is that we ourselves don't take any action against injustice but just wait for others to take and this is thought by most of us so the civilized people (who are in majority) remain dormant and few petty hooligans hold the peace and system to ransom.
