Fear of freedom

The context in which the phrase"fear of freedom" was used got me thinking about some of the most oppressed people in a society, the bonded labourers. These people exist in a state where they cannot comprehend the meaning of freedom and independence and are ignorant about the concept of self-worth. When these people after generations of oppression and dehumanisation are suddenly liberated , how will they react? how will they rehabilitate themselves and uplift themselves in the society. The fear of freedom they experience is uncomprehendable and the gift of freedom will be unappreciated by them.
