Inclination for collective action

Why is that the collective action takes place easily for emergency and destructive purposes? Why people are not able to combine their efforts and collectively for a betterment or progressive cause? Is it the problem to see long term benefits of the collective action or is it that people want to involve them and vent out frustration through performing aggressive things in life? How the vision and persuasive skills of initiators shape the future of the collective action? The more I am thinking to find out answers, I am getting more questions into my mind.

Even this question bothers me a lot. Why cann't we stand collectively against any injustice or unsocial activity?Sometimes I feel is it a saddist approach that people collectively gain by harrasing others in the form of violence ?Still I m in search of the answer !

Emergency and destructive activities are more of a mob and extra-rational actions rather than a collective action. In Emergency,it all depends on one initiator to drive the mob in one direction and it is the mob behavior which drives the people in riots. These actions all happen in a nick of time and crowd behavior sets in. I for one wouldn't categorize them pure collective actions.

@Rashmi,
Then think about the cases of planned riots. Why mobilizing people towards more constructive activities is difficult when compared to violent activities?

Agreed that a collective action takes place for destructive purposes. Take for example the Mumbai bomb blasts. But it was after these blasts that the collective solidarity of people could be seen. people did collect for showing that they were against violence and the spirit of bombay could be seen. People no more were tamil, telegu, delhite, north Indian or so forth but they were all Mumbaikars, they were finally Human beings.

i think that often violent or aggressive collective actions get more attention than the progressive ones...but that does not mean that progressive ones are more difficult...i think a planned riot is equally difficult...can you execute a planned riot with college students?? wont it be much easier with say radicalists???collectives are made up of individuals...it boils down to this fact in the end...d individuals and the situation defines how much progressive or regressive the collective is....
