For some getting grades is important... for others maintaining their personal ethics is more important....can we always say what is right...for some it is the means that matter....for others it is the end.. Shouldnt it be left to the individuals to decide what is good for them???

Means or Ends???
what matters more...Lord Krishna believed in achieving of ends...if one has to kill Bhishm Pitamah, to win the war do it...whereas Lord Ram believed in means...maryada purushottam.. The point is that mythology also doesn't give the answer as to what is more important...means or ends???

well said..actually every individual is absolutely free to decide what is right or wrong regarding every aspect and he is the best one to follow a particular course of action..if people are not happy with current scenario in the world around us because it does not boost their so called pseudo-ethical values then that is completely their problem..and its high time moral policing be stopped because it creates more problems than solving a few of them..in such a conflicting scenario involving morals, ethics and norms collective action and cooperation is required in order to demarcate definite boundaries for individuals and groups so that interference in each other's affairs is minimal and a better precedence is set.
Don't you think that too much of freedom will lead to chaos and destruction at end.Freedom is good till the result is not zerosum.
Only catch is that ethics and moral are not not stated clearly which is universal. e.g in Hindu Culture Premarital relationship is not considerd moral and ethical but in western society, its no big deal.
When it comes to deciding what is important "Means" or "Ends"..It "depends"...u will ask on "what"? It depends on the individual state of mind, his "perception" of "right" and "wrong"; the "socio-cultural norms" and the numerous factors which give direction to ones thoughts and actions. "Values" for one may not be appicable as values for the rest. The point of "univerasal values" as stated by Rajnish is appicable on each of the believes that are said to be "value" or "norm".
ord Krishna talked about "detached Karma(actions)",but getting the good grades through any mean is not a "detached karma".It is one of the actions of a human-being to satisfy his/her own sense.
As far as comparision of two lords is concerned,Lord Krishna was not only known for his Raas-leela with gopis, but was also expert in all the 64 kalas(arts) of life. And,many hindu mythological experts have the view that Sri Ram was not expert in all these 64 arts of life.
But,I think both were great in their own circumstances.
Which Rama?
A person has the right to get all the marks he wants to. He is also free to use all methods at his disposal. Provided he/ she does it in isolation.
You are free as long as your freedom doesnt hurt me.
Talking in IRMA's context, sadly, this isnt the case.
We have comparative grades Remember?
Now, if I get a 10 on 10 by my chosen way of action( which might be cheating) the person getting 5 on 10 will suffer( if his way of action is not cheating)
Now,if grades didnt matter at all. It would be fine. But, some still ahve to pass. Isnt it?
And then, all the chaos regarding disclosure of grades during placement are sure to occur. What then? Will a person llike me(whose sole chosen way of scoring all through my studies in IRMA was cheating) opt out of disclosing marks? I suspect.
I dont know much about moral policing. Neither am I an advocate of a few people trying to restore sense to the croud.( They might not be qualified enough)
But, individual freedom has to draw a line before it hampers someone else's freedom.
I value my freedom, I respect your freedom.
You love your freedom, please respect mine.
(This is not from the desk of someone & company)
Nobody can ever be allowed to be free enough to curtail other's freedom.
Individuals can be given the leeway to decide what is good for them only in case it doesn't affect others. If someone uses unfair means to snatch someone else's right which he/she deserves, it cannot be tolerated.
I fully agree with Uphar's POV especially since what we have here is a relative grading system.
Adding another dimension to it, people coming in late to class is also not a matter of personal choice of what is good for them basically because if it is tolerated, what is the incentive for the others to come on time to class?
