Collective Action vs Collective Inaction

We see collective action in all forms. The political parties collectively mug voters and the “rulers” become the “ruled”. The Govt. workers collectively wreak inefficient and unscrupulous behavior on the very people they were chosen to serve. The wealthy collectively try to keep the poor out of the 9% GDP growth. The terrorists collectively wreak destruction; the “babas” collectively dupe people.

To this, we collectively remain silent, collectively let people mug us only to vote them in, again; collectively cheat the person who is lower to us in the food chain; collectively bribe govt officials to get our work done. This COLLECTIVE INACTION on our part collectively makes them stronger to collectively take advantage of us.

@ Sunny

It is indeed sad that now the common people are becoming more and more individual and hence the growing apathy with fellow common people is leading to them remaining "collectively" silent on the injustices being heaped upon them. The 3-crore cases lying in the various courts of India just goes to show we're all being taken for a ride and the 1-billion collectively can't bring about a change against a handful of legislatives.
What a shame !!!

Glad to see that you are so saddened by the 'inaction' on the part of 'us'. But before we expect 'us' to work for the greater good, wouldn't it be better if we all worked a little each for our own good?! Correct me if I am wrong, but the simple example of not littering the corridors, with empty wrappers, waste paper, and cigarette butts.. this is the least we can do! i'nit?!

I think you are right. Some of us live in an anachronistic world, a world far removed of present-day realities. It’s as if their life is still in slow motion, they are so reluctant to change. They are so slow in responding to the changing world that they still don’t realise the externalities their actions pose on others.
Such lackadaisical, lethargic, apathetic and attitude to contribute to the society and their growing selfishness is fast becoming a pandemic for which the anti-dote is still to be found. I hope such people wake up from their deep slumber and contribute something to the society without any ulterior motives.

I agree with whatever is mentioned above. I think, we should try to change the collective inaction on our part into some collective action. We have been talking about this for long. So, now I think we should chalk out plan as to what should be done. I think Charity begins at home. So, lets start with ourselves and our friends. Apart from keeping surroundings clean, refraining from bribery... what else could be done??
