Is dissecting Ethics ethical??

Ethics was dissected in our CAC class. It was put into rules which said why and when ethics will be prioritized and circumstances where it will not be. Our education system has been. trying to teach and induce ethical values into us. Practicing ethics requires sheer will and self-control. Isn't it by portraying ethics as mere cause and effect of circumstances demeaning to individuals who have very high ethical standards and practice it in every circumstances.

First of all i dont think rules portrayed ethics as cause and effect of situations. Rules tell us to look at the ethics from different angles like ends, importance of ends,no of ends, context, personal interest and other dimensions so as to judge morality of actions more objectively. U will have to look at these rules and then try to figure out if individual has high ethical standards or not.

With regard to the means and ends debate, whether the means are ethical or not is loosing importance nowadays. More and more organizations and individuals act to achieve the ends without considering the means involved.

I think the Means And Ends article we read was just one man's take on the subject. He obviously wrote with a lot of subjectivity. Just because someone sees ethics in that light doesnt mean it is definitive. There could be myriad other ways of looking at means and ends. Had Mahatma Gandhi written on something of this sort(I am not sure if he has not) I am sure it would have made a different read.
It was not the ”TEN COMMANDMENTS” that GOD spoke and the followers read.

As far as i have understood the situation posed, i would say that ethics are fine to a certain limit and they too are subjective to the situation. but beyond a point one has to mould the ethics to get the best out of something. if your ethics can take one's life or a diversion from your ethics can save someone's life, what would you choose?

Let the definition of ethical stay in that case.. Save the life and save it in unethical manner.Feel proud of doing so.But dont let that saved life be a reason for continued unethical behaviour and its justification.

what is ethics i s itself questionable? it's all subjective depending on the situation. i think concept of karma is more appealing it says we need to do what is expected from us and our work is our ethics
