A lot of people are concerned about the NREGA and its success. But if there is meaningful work and, if it is going to benefit a larger section of society it can really make a big difference. Under the guidance of Mr. S. M. Raju, Tirhut division commissioner, Bihar, some 60,000 people came together and planted 1.2 Crore saplings under NREGA. And it’s not mere plantation, people are looking after it and, thus by this activity earning their livelihood. Also Mr. Raju is working on plan to plant bamboo trees along Gandak River embankment to protect it during floods.

Definitely, collective action under able leadership can make great difference. The difference can be both positive and negative, depending on the issue and the prowess of the leader.
