education and collective action

it is often regarded that education helps in bettering our understanding and thus make us sensitive towards the need for collective action and cooperation in life, both personal and professional. but the question is whether the present system of education is helping the cause or actually undermining even the feeble chances for cooperation. many social and educational experts affirm that the present system has failed in instilling the sense of cooperation among the people. in his classic 'De schooling society', Ivan Illich proposed an alternate education system to the one existing. we in our PRM sessions emphasise the need for collective action and cooperation, but the foundations on which we are part of is so shaky to create any positive orientation towards it. so the point is whether to have a collective action to address the lacunae of the present education system right form form the school curriculum.
