OTS Organisation and Incentives

Today a voting was held to decide whether people bringing in organisations for OTS would be given first preference to go to that organisation. If the majority decides against it than it basically takes away the incentive for anyone to try and bring in organisations. If he is allowed along with another person chosen randomly then he will receive a benefit to justify his costs while the others receive a fraction of the benefits. Also to vote against it can be seen as free riding; an attempt to appropriate the benefits others contribute while not incurring any cost.

Gandhiji once quoted that whenever we take a decision, we should think of what impact it will have on the poorest of the poor.If I can get contacts for OTS and many of my friends can get it, it cannot be the same for a person who looks upon IRMA for the same. This may further lower their confidence !

i agree with you. the person who will call for an organisation should have some incentive to motivate him for the cause. allowing a seat reserved for him creates a win-win situation for both the student and other participations. as he gets what he wanted and the fellow students recieve the benifits in terms of a an extra project in the pool.

Gandhi's Talisman has rightly been quoted in this case. Person X may be coming from a background which allows him to call companies for internship. Another person Y, who may be better than X in all respects, whether it be academics, knowledge or whatever other quotient, may lose out in the race only because of the reason that he has never had the chance to share a dinner table with the 'big guys'. Whether this is justified or not, especially in a place like IRMA, is upto us to decide..

I think the comment made by Ashok is quite valid but we need to look at the situation from the other perspective as well......what incentive will the other person have for bringing in the organisation if he himself will have to fight for a seat....because be it an individual or a group effort every person is firstly looking for his or her own benefit and this situation being no exception.

Agreeing to the point made by Rashi.
We need to look from both the perspectives. The person who brings the company needs the incentive ie. a reserved seat along with that the additional seat for the benefit of others.

For people who are looking towards IRMA for OTS organization should not forget that IRMA still will help them to find OTS organization along with additional seat coming their way.

In a way benefits to both who are bringing organization and who cannot bring.
