Sham Democracy
The most talked about collective action of last year,Naz foundation led fight for gay rights, created much friction in civil society and exposed the hollowness of this claim they call 'World's largest democracy'.Maturity of any country's democracy is judged by it's ability to absorb contempt and include even the dissenting voices in the mainstream.Rushdie's Knighthood and his state protection after Ayatollah Khomeini's fatwa by then "IRON LADY" of U.K. , Margaret Thatcher in spite of being called a "!@#$%" by him and going in public with the statement which would have landed him behind bars in this "democracy"(incidentally he dreamt of bedding Her Majesty, only to be knighted by her after some 20 years!!!)bears testimony. Leaders are the ones who create more leaders and not the ones who put you behind bars or shoot you for speaking your mind like Dr. Binayak Sen was incarcerated for more than a year on a flimsy ground of "supporting naxals" by Raman Singh government of Chattisgarh. If law of the land intervenes in people's bedrooms advising government of the day what people should or should not be viewing, take 18 months in finding truth behind a non existent charge and discredit people's rightful claim to their land as Maoist menace then we know what to call our beloved country... Sham democracy..

The Law of land are created by the people of that Land. This is Democracy, you too have the power to raise your voice! It can be in form of media or your representative or Yourself.
Every system of governance has its own merits or demerits. So does Democracy! For few shady reasons that go against Democracy, the positivist side of Democracy should not be ignored!
If not Democracy, what Governance do you propose??
Law of the land should graduate to a mature level from kindergarten level where we are at the moment.Am all for people raising their voice, however divergent the views may be..This is what the post is about..absorbing those contemptuous remarks.Fault of our democracy is not reaction but knee-jerk reaction and oh yes. . it is state's responsibility to protect freedom of expression..
