Women reservation.. too early or too late???
The issue raised in todays class regarding women reservation and its related aspects once again brought to front one of the glaring examples of the actual reality of women empowerment. The male dominated political class especially in central and state politics find it hard to relinquish their power to the fairer sex. Can we empower women just by giving reservation or by changing people's mindset through collective action is the question to be pondered upon.

Collective action is required in channelizing the potential of women in the correct way. Reservation is just one of the ways, there could be various other ways like giving them proper training at the grass root level in all aspects. Change in mindset is sure the primary objective, but that can only take place in long term. In the educated urban society, to some level, changes have been observed. What is required is that women together become such a powerful fore that it becomes unavoidable to avoid them.
I think that reservation is one of the steps by which the empowerment of women can be brought about through force in shorter duration of time. Nobody is willing to share the power in politics and until enforced by law, I think the participation of women would not have gained ground. Collective action aided by enactment of law is a lot more effective in this case.

I want to just take one step forward with what Astha said, There are lot of places were environment for Women to rise up is present, i.e no bias , no discrimination. Educated women should use these institutions and organizations in the best possible way ,they should stand for important positions and set examples. It will inspire confidence in other women. Reservation in a long run may portray women as meek , it can even throw a picture that they require crutches of reservation to move ahead.
One important step towards empowerment is self-realization. “Are we really aware of our own potential!” has to be the first question when we debate on empowerment. And reservation is the first step in this endeavour which works towards the sensitization of the beneficiaries. Hence it’s the weapon used to help the oppressed class recognize its credentials. Thus, reservation works to sensitize human beings and direct the ignited minds towards a greater cause. That is why at this juncture women reservation is justified.
