Developing Security- Securing development

Lack of security is a major detriment to development process in areas such as Kashmir and the North East; here we refer to the military security. But security has a much broader definition which may include protecting the people from different threats like poverty, disease, social injustice and natural disaster.

But it is difficult to distinguish between cause and effect: where social injustice and poverty prevail, crises and conflict are often inevitable like the Naxalite problems in a major part of the nation.

So it can be aptly said that the development policy is the most cost effective security policy since it helps to prevent crises and conflicts.
