POLITICS OF COOPERATION
It is a very well known fact that POLITICAL NEUTRALITY is often considered to be one of the cornerstones of cooperation, then why have the cooperative societies become a hotbed of political aspirations..? Why do the aspirants and leaders invest a great deal of money, energy, organisation and other resources to get elected.. ? People becoming leaders also take it to be a stepping stone for higher political ambitions, they wield power as decision makers and also enjoy various fringe benefits..isn't the essence of collective action and cooperation being made a mockery here..?

The possible reason i can see for the same is that in any kind of election, you win with the help of public support. So, it becomes easier for the person to contest for other political elections if he has won or has participated in any co-operative elections. More over, cooperatives earn a huge margin of profits if they are working efficiently, small eg are cooperative socities where we went in induction field work. so, it has monetary gains as well
Co-operatives handle a large chunk of money, and the person involved in its politics becomes an important member. The person gets benefited, as he adds new feather in his cap of political career. Besides, he also pays large bribes (in many cases) to the voting members so that he gets selected. Life becomes cherry after he gets selected and he makes much more than he invested. yes, definitely it is a mockery of co-operatives and democracy, but than, this is the shortcoming of Democracy.
