Women generally donot participate in those collective actions that can create conflict. In a country like India, still men donot want that women should cross the boundary of their homes. If any women do so,many social norms and practices(made by men)prohibits her to do so.
Just take an example of our campus. We claim about equality and overall development. But, many girl participants donot participate in those works or debates that can create conflict and problems for her.On this blog also,if we calculate the %of girl participants in our batch/% of blogs written by her,it is less than 1.Similarly for Class-participation this number would be less than 1.
Reason is clear.Whenever any girl participant expressed her views, many comments opposite to her views comes. In the student-body also, very few girl participants are involved in decision -making processes. They are just understood as painting and decorating experts.
If the highly educated domain shows this characteristics, then imagine the situation of "Real India".

Very well said. I recently read that reservation for women has empowered them. More and more women are coming out of their houses and participating in decision making process. With regard to our batch, no girl stood for the post of class representative. How do we encourage girls in our batch to participate ? The question still bothers me...
I agree keshav. Today's GAD class proved your point further where one female participant's opinion was overturned by many male participants. This would discourage other participants who want to voice their opinion but would not do so for the fear of such backlash.
